Designer – Calvin Zuraw

Calvin Zuraw worked as a summer intern at Sorensen Partners in 2021. He helped the firm with work for Boston Housing Authority to replace roofs at three elderly high-rise developments. His work so far has involved assisting in existing conditions documentation during site visits; drawing and noting section cut and axonometric details for different areas and components of the roofs; and working on the project specifications, under the direction of supervising architecture staff. Calvin has also assisted in interior design for the Walando Homes Rehabilitation of 59 units of affordable housing for Codman Square Neighborhood Development Corporation in Dorchester and Mattapan, MA, and with furniture layout for a training and office space for a new building the firm is designing for West Boylston Municipal Lighting Plant in West Boylston, MA. During his time at the firm, Calvin’s software skills have grown from AutoCAD, SketchUp, and InDesign to include an operational knowledge of Revit.

As an undergraduate student currently studying Interior Architecture at Endicott College, much of Calvin’s learning so far has involved projects that require small space planning and creating environments based around abstract concepts that allow for a cohesive interior space to be designed. While arriving at the firm with little experience in his studies with architecture thus far, Calvin has been quickly gaining architectural skills in a short amount of time.

A major aspect of the interior design field that interests Calvin is the surprisingly strong effect that it can have on one’s mental state and livelihood. He greatly values the impact that his work can potentially have on the world on a societal level as well as an individual one. Environmental and sustainable design is also something very important to Calvin. He believes that climate change is one of, if not the most pressing issue that our world is currently facing, and it is something that he hopes to have a positive impact on throughout his future career in the interior design and architecture field.
