John Swett High School Music & Administration Buildings – Crockett, CA

John Swett High School Music & Administration Buildings – Crockett, CA

Two infill buildings to house administration and music departments fit within a 1927 historic brick campus on the narrow buildable site of John Swett High School in Crockett, CA. The new buildings improve circulation and accessibility with a continuous connecting corridor, two communicating stairs, an elevator, an accessible lift, and a double-height entrance lobby and add custom program space that is day-lit, energy efficient, naturally ventilated, and acoustically controlled. Set back from and lower in height than the existing buildings, and designed with glass curtain walls and operable awning windows, the transparent additions create a counter-rhythm to the grand brick campus and preserve its historic character.

This approximately 88,000 square foot project was built in 2014.
