Training Facility & Truck Garage for West Boylston Municipal Light Plant – West Boylston, MA

Sorensen Partners is Architect for a 5,800-sf new wood-frame training facility and 5-bay truck garage that is currently under construction with Classic Construction and Development as General Contractor. Sorensen Partners is supervising the work of engineering sub-consultants BLW Engineers, Consulting Structural Engineer, and DeVellis Zrein on this project that was approved by the West Boyslton ZBA and Planning Board in Spring 2022. The Worcester Telegram published this story about the project’s development in March 2022.

The project site is across the street from WBMLP’s existing building at 4 Crescent Street; the new building is designed with a traditional New England “house and barn” style to fit into the rural character of the neighborhood. The durable cement-board clapboard envelope is designed to current building code requirements with attention to continuity of insulation and air sealing at joints and openings. The building will be powered exclusively by electric utility service and utilizes air stratification fans in the truck garage. Condensers are sited on the cool north side of the building to improve efficiency. Bioswales drain rain water to a retention basin at the far end of the parking lot.

The building site at 29 Prospect Street was previously a veterinary hospital.
The vet hospital was demolished and the site was prepped for construction in Spring 2022.
