Mentoring Intern Architects: Jiayuan Wang

Mentoring Intern Architects: Jiayuan Wang

Jiayuan Wang was a Designer and Intern at Sorensen Partners in 2019. At Sorensen Partners, Jiayuan contributed to our work for Boston Housing Authority, MassHousing, and Camp Ramah Berkshires. Wang is a designer with two years of experience in architectural design and project management. Areas of expertise include new commercial and multi-family residential construction; concept design and design rendering; adaptive reuse and rehabilitation; interior design; and masterplanning, site layout and hardscape design for large-scale public landscapes. Jiayuan is a part of the new generation of contemporary architects exploring sustainable and passive design, new materials, and digital spatial design. Jiayuan’s design approach is based in a studio art practice including more than ten years of drawing, painting and sculpting. She is an experienced collaborative design team member in Revit, 3D Max, and Rhino – as well as hand-sketching and post-production. Jiayuan’s professional experience includes projects in Boston and New York City for public spaces, multifamily elderly housing, multifamily housing rehabilitation, and outdoor recreation masterplanning. A Chinese native who moved to Boston after high school, she understands both American and Asian culture well, and uses this as a tool to study the functional and formal facts and possibilities of design futures for the U.S. and China.
